Three Months Old

(Special Father's Day Edition)

Alex has doubled his birth weight and checks in at slightly over 15 lbs now. He's still pleasantly plump, but most of his new weight gain has come from him growing in length. He has an incredibly long torso and has grown out of several outfits because they simply wouldn't stretch to snap under his diaper anymore. He's also developed a few bald spots on the front and sides of his head, but the hair appears to be growing back in a strawberry blond color.

Alex still naps heavily during the day, but is starting to have longer waking periods where he is happy to play with his activity gym, look at the world from his strap-on carrier, or just sit on a lap and smile and coo at us. He has a wide repertoire of noises, ranging from a two-syllable cluck that sounds like he's saying "igloo" to a long, drawn-out "ooo" or "eee". Now that Alex is more responsive and alert, Matt is getting a real kick out of him. He flips him over and flies him around the house like a little airplane, and sings Willie Nelson songs to him.

He's a very vertical baby -- dislikes being on his back for too long, and absolutely hates being laid on his tummy. One of his favorite things is being held in a standing position. Amazingly, he bears weight on his little legs for several seconds. We know it's too early to tell, but we're convinced he's going to skip the crawling stage and go straight to walking.

Happy Father's Day to all his grandpas and great-grandpas out there.

Deep in conversation with Dad. "Ooooo," says Alex. "Really? Naa, you're fibbing," says Matt.

Alex shows off his newest trick -- standing.

Investigating the toys on his bouncy seat.

Smiling.

Drooling.

Alex is getting so big that we can't even fit all his hands and feet into the picture anymore.

It's a bird, it's a plane...
